About Our School

Desert Cove, established in 1964, is nestled in the heart of the Paradise Valley Unified School District. The school takes immense pride in upholding a long-standing tradition of academic excellence for every student. 

Desert Cove Elementary School is nestled in a serene neighborhood at the foot of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Shea Middle School and Shadow Mountain High School are neighboring schools. The campus radiates warmth and friendliness and is dedicated to providing an environment that nurtures every student's potential. 

Desert Cove Elementary is an AVID school that empowers students with values like determination, leadership, organization, and independence. The school also implements the PBIS model to support students' behavioral, social, and academic needs. Desert Cove promotes inclusivity, respect, and participates in No Place for Hate activities.

The Desert Cove community is bursting with energy and enthusiasm for students' growth. The PTO and Student Council are true leaders, providing outstanding role models for young learners. Each school year involves a variety of vibrant events and activities, including much-loved Trunk or Treat, festivals, movie nights, and many more fun-filled occasions. 

Desert Cove Elementary proudly belongs to the North Valley Arts Academy (NVAA). 4th-6th students are fortunate enough to take NVAA classes in Dance, Theatre, and Music Technology. Moreover, the school offers Music, NVAA Visual Art, P.E., and Library classes for all students. 

Teachers use the Common Core State Standards and approved curriculum. Students enjoy enriching programs such as Wonders, Really Great Reading, Hegarty, 95%, Zearn, and Eureka. Daily small-group and whole-group instruction is provided to meet individual student needs.

Desert Cove Elementary offers not just one but two unique programs for gifted students. These students attend gifted education classes instead of their regular core content classes. 

Desert Cove Elementary offers a wide range of special education programs and services. The selection of programs is extensive, including the self-contained communication development program, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Hearing Impairment Services, and Resource classes. The school is committed to working hand-in-hand with their families to ensure a top-notch educational experience for every child.

There is an abundance of before and after-school programs available on our campus that will undoubtedly enrich the lives of our students. The school has a wide range of programs, such as Runner's Club, Girls on the Run, WIT (Women in Tech), DC Reads, and a vast array of after-school enrichment classes that rotate throughout the year. These classes include dance, art, sports, and science.
